Religious Education Curriculum

RE Curriculum

At St Mark’s C of E Primary our aspiration is that every child should be a successful learner, a confident individual, responsible citizen and an effective contributor to society and at work.

Religious Education seeks to make a major contribution to the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of pupils by helping them to acquire the knowledge and understanding of Christianity and the other major religions represented in Britain. It also helps them to develop their own beliefs and values.

Diocese of Rochester Kent Agreed Syllabus

RE studies are extended into the local church of St Mark’s through participation in services at Harvest and Christmas time. The children learn about the church building, its historical development and symbolism. Other local churches are studied from time to time and annually our year 6 children participate in the Diocesan Church Schools’ Festival in Rochester Cathedral .

Parents have the right to withdraw their children from RE lessons, though they are expected to be in sympathy with the aims of a church school. Parents should be aware that we promote the belief that all children are equal whatever their religious background.
